The 34-year-old has been a star for club and country over many years and this landmark is just another to add to his long list of accolades.

The goal was his 95th for Portugal to add to his 605 club goals for Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus.
His 700th goal came in the Euro 2020 qualifier against Ukraine.
Ronaldo has had many special moments over the years but here are five the forward is perhaps best remembered for.

Gareth Southgate says England were ‘very close’ to walking off after racist chants in 6-0 win against Bulgaria

Gareth Southgate revealed just how close England were to walking off against Bulgaria when players were subjected to racist abuse from home fans.
Monday night’s Euro 2020 qualifier was stopped twice in the first half after racist chanting and Nazi salutes from a section of the crowd at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia, which Southgate alerted to match officials.

Fans inside the stadium were warned on the tannoy system that the match could be abandoned if they did not halt their behaviour but, despite further chants being heard in the second half, it did continue to its conclusion.
The Three Lions let their football do the talking as they cruised to a 6-0 win, and Southgate told talkSPORT afterwards how he let his players dictate how they handled the situation.
“It was extremely difficult for the players,” he said. “We prepared as well as we could for it. Sadly, we knew it this might happen.
“There were two things the players had to deal with going into the game. The possibility of what happened off the pitch may happen and the fact we were off the back of a hugely disappointing result and we had to put a performance on the field that got us back on track.

“For all of the players and staff, this last week has been an incredibly difficult challenge but I’m hugely proud of the way they dealt with everything before, during and after the game.”
Asked how close they were to walking off, he responded: “Very close and I know that for some people what we’ve done won’t be enough but we were in an impossible situation where we couldn’t keep everybody else happy.
“We had to do what we felt was right for these group of players. The players wanted to stay on the pitch and they wanted to get to half-time. We were in contact with the referee throughout that period and I have to say he dealt brilliantly with an incredibly difficult situation.

“At half-time tactics went out the window and we discussed what we would do in the instance of something else happening. The reality is that if we were going to come off the pitch then it is unlikely we were going to go back onto it and we checked everybody was happy with that process.”
On the pitch, England were dominant throughout the match and were 4-0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford, Ross Barkley (two) and Raheem Sterling.
In the second half, Sterling added a second and the scoring was completed by Harry Kane five minutes from time.

Bruno Fernandes Proving His 2018/19 Season Was Not A Fluke

Few players in Europe had a more successful season during the 2018/19 campaign than Sporting CP star Bruno Fernandes. The talented playmaker was the undisputed leader of a Lisbon side that reached a UEFA Europa League berth, and he quickly became one of the most prized transfer assets heading into the current 2019/20 campaign.
Fernandes was quickly linked with a move to some of Europe’s best sides. Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid were all expected to engage in a bidding war for the Portugal international. However, there is no certainty on whether there was an official bid for Fernandes or not. The reality is that he didn’t move anywhere, and remained as a Sporting player for the current term.
Many believed his 2018/19 was a one-time thing, and that he was not going to be able to repeat that. After all, Fernandes registered 32 goals and 18 assists in 53 appearances in all competitions for Sporting. It’s not easy to carry that kind of production from one year to the next. But the 25-year-old has been even better in 2019/20. So far, what he did last season hasn’t been a fluke. Maybe he’s just that good, and he needs to leave the Primeira Liga in order to test himself in a more competitive environment.

Fernandes needs to leave the Primeira Liga as soon as possible

It’s clear Portugal’s top-flight is not enough for him anymore. Fernandes already has seven goals and five assists in 10 appearances across all competitions. He also averages one goal every 129 minutes – that’s an insane ratio for someone who isn’t even a striker. Although you couldn’t say that by simply judging at his numbers.
It remains to be seen whether Fernandes decides to make the jump to a tougher league ahead of the 2020/21 season. He’s not expected to leave Sporting during the January transfer window, but anything can happen. And if he keeps playing at this level, then top teams should be wise to knock on Sporting’s door once again.
He has been one of Europe’s top playmaking threat for the past 15 months. And that level of consistency is not easy to reach. It’s time he moves elsewhere to prove everyone he can thrive at the top level of competition. Something the Portuguese league does not offer at the moment.

Gareth Southgate praises England players for making ‘major statement’

Gareth Southgate felt his England players made a “major statement” in getting their Euro 2020 qualifier against Bulgaria in Sofia halted twice as he reflected on what Greg Clarke, the Football Association chairman, called “one of the most appalling nights I’ve seen in football”.
England’s three starting black players – Tyrone Mings, Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford – were subjected to monkey chants with Mings, the debutant, saying he had first heard them during the warm-up. In line with Uefa’s three-step protocol, England reported the abuse to the referee, Ivan Bebek, who passed on a message to be broadcast over the PA system for it to stop.
In the 41st minute, following further abuse and more complaints from England, Bebek temporarily stopped the game and asked Southgate whether he wanted to take his players off to the dressing room. The manager said they wanted to make it to half-time. There were further talks during the interval but England were determined to play on in the second-half – to show the racists they would not win, to quote Clarke. There remained the threat that they would walk off if there was more abuse and the game, which finished in a 6-0 England win, would be abandoned.
“I know that whatever we do might be perceived as not being enough but I think we’ve made a major statement,” Southgate said. “We’ve made a major statement with the way we played, through such difficult circumstances. I don’t think a game of this magnitude has ever been stopped twice. So, I’m incredibly proud of all of the players and all of the staff.
“We could be criticised for not going far enough but I think we’ve made a huge statement and, frankly, we were in an impossible situation to get it right to the satisfaction of everybody.
“The players were all absolutely adamant they wanted to keep playing but also we knew, if there was anything in the second half, we’d be reporting it and coming off.”
Southgate gave an insight into how steeled his players now were to racist abuse. “Sadly, because of their experiences in our own country, they are hardened to racism,” he said.
“I don’t know what that says about our society but that’s the reality. It actually saddens me. So they actually are in the dressing room smiling because they’ve played so well.
“We will recognise there’s been an opportunity tonight to raise awareness of this issue and I think that has happened. But Raheem Sterling has got the hump with me for taking him off when he’s on a hat-trick. Sometimes you have to smile through adversity. We all knew we were in a pretty impossible situation so we’ve tried to navigate it in the best way we could.”
Sterling later retweeted a news story in which the Bulgaria coach, Krasimir Balakov, accused England of having a bigger racism problem than his own country. “Mmmmh‚ not sure about this one chief,” Sterling wrote. “Feeling sorry for Bulgaria to be represented by such idiots in their stadium. Anyway, 6-0 and we go back home. At least we did our job. Safe travel to our fans, you guys did well.”
Mings said: “I heard [the chants] before I even got to the other side of the pitch for the warm-up. Just before half-time we were contemplating coming off because that was the next step after a stadium announcement. There were a couple of minutes to go to half-time, so we thought we’d play the couple of minutes, go in and talk about it then, which we did and we made a collective decision.
“It didn’t affect my feelings. I think I’m quite lucky in that way because I don’t feel like it is a personal assault. I feel sorry for the people who have those views. But I also have a duty to represent people that don’t have a voice, so it didn’t hurt or harm my feelings one bit. It was obviously bigger than me and bigger than what I felt.”
The Bulgaria captain, Ivelin Popov, was seen in a heated debate with a section of home supporters near to the tunnel as the teams departed for half-time. “I’ve been told what the Bulgaria captain did at half-time,” Rashford said. “To stand alone and do the right thing takes courage and acts like that shouldn’t go unnoticed.”
